Blue Parakeet Rugs Makes the Lineup in Emily Henderson Feature on Colorful Sofa Rug Pairings

Blue Parakeet Rugs was included in a curated rug roundup by design writer and editor Arlyn Hernandez for the Emily Henderson platform, spotlighting rug choices for homes with colorful sofas. The piece explored thoughtful ways to pair rugs with bolder upholstery choices, offering readers inspiration beyond traditional neutral combinations.

Being included alongside nationally recognized home brands was an exciting moment…and another meaningful nod from the Emily Henderson team, whose longstanding support of Blue Parakeet Rugs over the years has meant a great deal. I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement, support, and continued celebration of Blue Parakeet Rugs and old world craftsmanship over the years.

The rug selected for the feature is one that feels especially meaningful to me. This late 19th century antique Persian Sultanabad Mahal rug came from the collection of an esteemed collector whose passing marked the end of a lifetime spent appreciating exceptional old textiles. Having the opportunity to acquire and carry pieces forward from collections like these is one of the privileges of working with antique rugs.

And this rug is remarkably different from many Persian Mahal rugs. Rather than traditional floral drawing, this one bursts with personality…tribal motifs, extraordinary movement, remarkable abrash, and some of the most electric vegetable dyed wool colors imaginable playing across an ivory ground. The natural color variation…the fingerprint of old wool and handmade dye work…creates depth and dimension that simply cannot be manufactured.

Hand knotted in Persia in the late 1800s, antique Persian Sultanabad and antique Persian rugs have long been admired for their artistry, decorative impact, and ability to anchor collected interiors with warmth and history. This piece carries all of that…and then some. Old rugs have a way of carrying stories forward. I’m grateful to play a small role in helping preserve them…and place them into homes for another hundred years and beyond.
