Blue Parakeet Rugs Woven Throughout Full-Home Transformation in House Beautiful

There are collaborations that are just projects, and then there are the ones that feel like a natural extension of a friendship — and working with Julia Chasman on this Santa Monica home was very much the latter. House Beautiful covers what started as a simple cosmetic refresh for a family who'd lived in their home since 1987 and grew, over three years, into a full-home transformation that touched every room and layered in personality at every turn. Julia has such a rare gift for creating spaces that feel deeply personal and alive — this home is a testament to that. Watching her business flourish the way it has feels so well-deserved, and getting to spread rugs throughout an entire home alongside her, from the entryway to the dining room to the kitchen, felt completely natural.

The rugs landed in some of the most hardworking spaces in the house — rooms that needed to do a lot, and do it beautifully. But one of my favorite moments in this project was a little more behind-the-scenes: the clients had a beloved Chinese Art Deco rug that Julia had designed the entire library around, only to find at installation that it was slightly too large for the space. Rather than abandon it, she brought it to us — and our team carefully cut it down and rebounded the original borders to the smaller body. You truly cannot tell it was touched. That, to me, is what this collaboration is all about: solving problems together and making sure every piece lands exactly right. Seeing this project recognized in House Beautiful, written up so beautifully by Meghan Shouse and photographed by Michael Clifford, means so much — and being part of something this special, with someone I genuinely call a friend, makes it even sweeter.
