Blue Parakeet Rugs are the Final Layer to a Colorful Ranch Kitchen in Homes & Gardens

We love a good kitchen moment, and this one in Homes & Gardens is really something special. A 1951 California Ranch house tucked into the lush, wooded hillside of Santa Monica's Rustic Canyon got a gorgeous kitchen transformation—and our rugs were there to tie it all together.

This was a long time collaboration with the incredibly talented Julia Chasman, and working with her is always a joy. Julia has such a gift for honoring the history of a home while breathing fresh, bold life into every room. For this project, two brothers who grew up in the house wanted to keep it in the family but give the dated kitchen the update it deserved. Julia leaned into the home's original wood-paneled ceilings and mid-century bones, layering in confident color—a striking Folly Green island, handmade Italian ceramic tiles, and warm vintage details at every turn.

And the rugs? They're throughout the home, but it's the kitchen where they really have their moment. Julia said it best—the vintage Persian rugs sourced from Blue Parakeet Rugs were the final touch that brought it all together. That last layer is always the one that makes a space feel complete, grounding all the color and character with the warmth and history that only antique rugs can bring.

We so appreciate the mention in Homes & Gardens and the continued collaboration with Julia Chasman. Head over to Homes & Gardens to see all the beautiful photos and read the full story of this incredible kitchen remodel!
