Working on a project with House of Hackney is a thrill—their fearless use of pattern and color can turn any room into something unforgettable. Teaming up with the duo behind Thunderwing Studio, Nic and J.B. Taylor, made this collaboration even more inspiring and fun to be part of, and we’re finally able to share it with all of you.

For this LA home to two amazing artists, Nic and J.B. Taylor, House of Hackney was tasked with creating a studio and a bedroom in two very different but very specific styles, “The studio is like a Bloomsbury painting on ayahuasca, and the bedroom is our soft-focus 1970s Spanish Baroque sanctuary,” said Maggie, their designated design guru. Compiling esoteric influences and daring palettes, Maggie curated incredible room-scapes built around a coterie of beautiful antique rugs. In their layered, light-filled studio, an antique Persian Mahal rug anchors the boldness of textiles and wallpapers, grounding all that pattern with timeless craftsmanship and warmth. The bedroom tells a different story: moody, romantic, and cocoon-like, it’s elevated by an antique Persian Lavar rug that adds depth, history, and just the right amount of drama. Even the closet got its own moment—a fluffy vintage Persian bouquet rug that brings comfort and charm to an often-overlooked space. Each rug finishes the room and sets the mood, becoming the foundation for everything else layered on top.
This project is a showcase of how antique rugs can completely shift the feel of a home. They don’t just decorate, they create atmosphere—playful, cozy, or dramatic. If you’re dreaming up your own sanctuary, let your dream rug be your starting point. The right one has a way of making everything else fall beautifully into place!
