The design gurus over at Style by Emily Henderson just rounded up “10 Very Good Design Ideas We’re Mentally Bookmarking From The Pasadena Showcase House (+ A Fun Fact You Probably Didn’t Know)” covering the Pasadena Showcase House, and leading the pack is Julia Chasman’s story-book library featuring one exuberant Blue Parakeet rug.
Style by Emily’s Arlyn Hernandez zeroes in on Julia’s elite rug-on-rug move: she floats our richly patterned antique Blue Parakeet rug over a broad natural-fiber rug, giving the space extra floor coverage while dialing down the formality. Arlyn picks up on another room in the design house that used the same layering technique to great effect in a totally different palette.
It’s a small twist with big payoff, and we’re thrilled they called out the bold swirls of coral, teal, and butterscotch that make the room feel collected rather than stuffy.
