Blue Parakeet Rugs Ground a Mid-Century Home Office in RUE Magazine
Working with Amy Sklar Design on projects has been such a blast, and seeing this one make it to print is extra sweet! The Fall 2026 issue of RUE magazine, with Nate Berkus on the cover no less, features Amy’s refresh of a 1955 house tucked into the hills of LA’s Silverlake neighborhood.
Amy calls Silverlake home herself, so this project for a working mom of two was right in her backyard. The house had been gloomy and chopped up, and Amy opened it up into a bright, easygoing space that celebrates its mid-century roots while keeping pace with a full family schedule. Her beautiful mix of warm wood, thoughtful details, and old soul shows up everywhere, from the cabinetry to the stonework in the kitchen to the refreshed wood ceilings.

Front and center in the home office is a little antique rug from Blue Parakeet Rugs, woven in the Caucasus Mountains. It sits under a tailored oak workspace with a leather-topped writing surface, a vintage spindle-back chair, and a pendant from Olde Brick Lighting. Among all that clean, warm wood, the rug adds the pattern, history, and texture that make the room feel personal, a quiet anchor for the hardest-working corner of the house.
So thankful to Amy and the wonderful RUE for the spotlight. We love seeing a rug carry the warmth of a home right into the center of a room, and moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
This feature is in print only, so pick up the Fall 2026 issue of RUE to see the full story and all of Meghan’s gorgeous photos.
