Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs gave a house tour and talked about getting that elusive “hippie luxe” look with Ashley Ropati for Lonny this week. The designer explained her approach to a blank-slate space in Highland Park and how she sources the essentials for a 70’s boho dream house — simple, muted furniture from Restoration Hardware and just-so weathered vintage Persian rugs from Blue Parakeet Rugs.

Ropati writes, “Myers…anchors her clients' living room with a minimal modular sofa by Restoration Hardware. The rich berry tones of the vintage rug — sourced via L.A. favorite, Blue Parakeet Rugs— creates a luxe-yet-livable contrast.”

"It's all about perfectly imperfect faded rugs," advises Myers. "It doesn't have to be — and most likely won't be — in new condition, not after decades of use. It should be cleaned beforehand by the vendor, though. Have a color combination in mind and first reject rugs based on colors you are looking for — then reject them based on pattern."

We couldn’t agree more that nothing comes close to the richness of color and pattern in a Persian rug aged naturally over generations. For this project, Myers used our Rug ‘N’ Roll program to shop on-site for the perfect rug to anchor the space, and the finished room clearly shows she picked a winner!
