4'7" x 6'7" Antique Kilim Rug

4'7" x 6'7" Antique Kilim Rug

This 19th Century Kilim is very pretty with soft colors and like all Kilim textiles, it was produced using a flat weaving technique. This is a Senneh Kilim featuring a center medallion that is surrounded by a dense Herati-motif background and narrow guard-bands and borders that frame it.

Kilims were used by tribal communities who first made them not only for the purpose of floor coverings, but for many uses in their day to day activities, such as using it to hang and protect them for weather conditions. Kilims are light weight, and were transportable and essential for the nomadic people. This kilim is in good condition, especially considering its age and has a small area of wear and tear, as shown in pics.

Woven in the 1890s
