3'10" x 13'7" Antique Kazak Runner



Hand knotted with high quality wool and coarse knots, this old Kazak rug features 7 large diamond medallions in the field and has a a beautiful border with geometric pattern throughout. This runner also has a time stamp woven in! The date is on the top face of the corner. Oriental rugs featuring this element not only authenticates them, but makes them all the more special and valuable. 

This is a stout Kazak, ready for another century of use and is in immaculate condition! 

The rich vegetable dyed wool colors include a rich red, indigo blue, royal blue, tan and ivory. It was woven in the region of Caucasus mountains circa 1880. This vegetable dyed wool Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these rugs. 

These rugs are very powerful in design and durability. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven, date back as far as 1700 BC and are the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. They were not just used for the floors by the nomads who weaved them, but were placed on walls because owning a Kazak was a status symbol. Kazaks were also placed on a King’s thrown or at his feet.
